In today's diverse clinical teaching settings, generational differences among learners and educators can create unique opportunities and challenges. This interactive workshop equips interprofessional clinical teachers with insights and strategies needed to embrace and effectively navigate these generational dynamics.
Participants will explore various generational cohorts and examine how communication styles, learning preferences, and interpersonal interactions diverge and align. Through collaborative activities, guided discussions, and case studies, attendees will uncover practical methods to foster inclusive and supportive learning environments that respect generational diversity and promote mutual understanding.
By the end of this session, participants will leave with enhanced awareness and strategies to foster collaboration and dialogue, empowering them to create more connected and effective clinical learning spaces.
Learning Objectives
- Review generational differences amongst communities within academic learning environments
- Explore how generational differences impact a teacher’s experiences with: a) Creating an effective, safe, and accountable learning environment; b) Orienting learners to the curriculum and setting expectations; c) Providing feedback, including the domain of professionalism
- Describe an approach to challenging conversations with medical learners, using the CARES framework.
- Discuss strategies to foster intergenerational learning supportive learning environments
