Description

Retirement for physicians is not just an end to clinical practice—it can open doors to a wide range of meaningful opportunities. Options such as teaching, mentoring, consulting, volunteering, or participating in medical boards allow retired physicians to continue contributing to healthcare without the intensity of full-time practice.

Finding the necessary information to access these opportunities can present a challenge and sometimes a disincentive. Medical Affairs at UHN set out to explore these “echo” career opportunities and suggestions with the intent of providing in- depth information as to how to access these. They will share with you specific suggestions for committee work and consulting, entrepreneurial choices, medical practice at home and abroad, as well as academic and CME teaching opportunities that are available. Our discussant, Dr. Behdin Nowrouzi-Kia, will provide insights from his recent paper, “Approaches to Enhancing and Sustaining Engagement in Post-Retirement Work: A scoping review”.
