Description

Feedback and debriefing are central to growth in health professions education. These moments are more than information exchanges; they are opportunities to foster insight, reflection, and professional development. Without clear frameworks, feedback interactions can feel awkward, emotionally charged, or ineffective - limiting their educational impact. This interactive workshop equips educators with evidence-informed frameworks to support high-quality feedback exchanges. Participants will explore and practice different feedback approaches. Using a mixture of small group discussions and role play, participants will: (a) reflect on their own experiences giving and receiving feedback, (b) examine the emotional and cognitive complexity of feedback interactions, (c) explore and apply evidence-based models and, (d) compare and contrast feedback frameworks.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe conceptual frameworks that support feedback exchanges
  • Compare and contrast different feedback frameworks and their applications
  • Reflect on how learners take up, use, or resist feedback during feedback exchanges
  • Apply practical strategies to make feedback exchanges more meaningful, respectful, and learner-centered

Who would benefit most from this workshop?

Health professionals, educators, faculty, and clinical teachers across disciplines who are tasked with providing feedback to others (e.g., students, learners, colleagues).
