Access and Inclusion Bursary

The CFD Access and Inclusion Bursary was created to help make our programs more accessible by reducing financial barriers. We recognize that access to professional development funding varies across health professions and institutions, and we’re committed to helping ensure our programs remain open and attainable to a wide range of participants.

This bursary is made possible through CFD investment, financial gifts, and contributions from our institutional members. Available funds vary from year to year, and therefore the number of bursaries awarded changes with each academic cycle. Each bursary provides a 50% discount on the lowest available tuition rate.

CFD Access and Inclusion Bursary for NEAL

*Deadline dates and number of bursaries available are updated at the beginning of each program recruitment cycle (typically late fall).

Process and Timing

  • Eligibility & Selection: Applicants who meet the basic criteria will be entered into a lottery for each program’s bursary. Bursary applications are reviewed separately and do not influence admission decisions.
  • Communication: Decisions are shared shortly after the application deadline, allowing time for applicants who are not selected to seek other funding options. We encourage all applicants to continue with their program applications while awaiting a bursary decision.
  • Award Application:Bursary funds are applied directly to tuition and reflected as a discount on your invoice. No funds are paid out to participants. Awards cannot be transferred to other programs or deferred to a future academic year.

Discount for Foundational Programs

We strive to keep tuition rates for our foundational programs as accessible as possible. If you are a Senior Trainee, Fellow, or Patient and Family Partner and would benefit from additional financial support, you may apply for a discounted rate. Availability of these discounts depends on annual funding and cannot be guaranteed.

Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) for NEAL

The Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) office is pleased to provide funding support for participants in the New and Evolving Academic Leaders (NEAL) program.

Faculty members who hold a leadership role in postgraduate medical education are eligible to apply. PGME has set aside funding to support up to 14 applicants. For each successful applicant, PGME will cover 50% of the NEAL tuition fee, with the expectation that the remaining 50% will be covered either by their home department.

To access this support, please provide:

  • A letter or email confirming the source of the remaining 50% of funding (either the participant or their department)
  • Confirmation of registration in the program

Please send these materials to adpgme@utoronto.ca by [DATE].

Funding will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, while also ensuring a balanced distribution across departments. If more than 14 eligible requests are received, additional applicants will be placed on a waiting list and may be reimbursed later if spots become available.
