Description

In health professions education, program evaluation is more than a requirement—it's a tool for learning, reflection, and system improvement. Many health professionals and educators are tasked with evaluating programs or interventions without formal training in evaluation methods. Without a structured approach or evaluative mindset, evaluation efforts may become superficial, compliance-driven exercises rather than meaningful opportunities for educational insight or change.

This workshop supports participants in developing a foundation in evaluative thinking. It equips them with practical tools to assess the state of a program, clarify its purpose, and design evaluations that are contextually responsive and improvement-oriented. Through a blend of interactive lectures, group discussions, and hands-on exercises, participants will: (a) explore the core principles of program evaluation, (b) examine how evaluation strategies align with a program’s developmental stage, purpose, and context, (c) consider the fit between evaluation design and available resources, and (d) begin crafting an adaptable, purpose-driven evaluation plan that supports local decision-making and learning.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe key features of sound program evaluation practice
  • Apply evaluative thinking to address real-world educational challenges
  • Identify and tailor evaluation approaches to their local context
  • Outline a practical evaluation strategy to support curricular or system change

Who would benefit most from this workshop?

  • Health professionals
  • Education Scholars
  • Academic leaders who are planning, developing, or evaluating educational programs, training initiatives, or curricular interventions within healthcare or academic settings.
