Description

Simulation is a dynamic and evidence-based educational tool that enhances clinical learning, promotes patient safety, and strengthens team-based practice. Despite its value, simulation can feel overwhelming to implement - especially without foundational knowledge of core principles and practices. Health professionals and educators may be eager to integrate simulation but lack guidance on where to begin and how to ensure its effectiveness.

This interactive workshop offers a foundational overview for health professionals and educators interested in implementing simulation within their academic or clinical settings. Facilitated by an interprofessional team of simulation educators, the session introduces key concepts and practical considerations for incorporating simulation into everyday practice. Through group discussion, brief presentations, and applied reflection, participants will: a) explore definitions and forms of simulation, b) learn essential elements of simulation-based education, including facilitation and debriefing, c) discuss the broad applications of simulation in clinical and educational settings and d) identify opportunities to begin using simulation in their own context.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Define simulation as an educational tool
  • Describe core concepts involved in planning and facilitating simulation sessions
  • Explore a range of simulation applications across clinical and academic settings
  • Identify actionable opportunities to integrate simulation into current practice

Who would benefit most from this workshop?

  • Health professionals, Clinical educators, and Faculty
  • People who are new to simulation and interested in integrating it into teaching or professional development at their hospital or academic institution
