Description

The aim of the session is to provide an opportunity for in-depth exploration of the science of adaptive expertise.  We will describe the construct of adaptive expertise, present examples of evidence-based cognitive and curricular mechanisms that support development of adaptive expertise and help participants envision the translation of this large body of theoretical research into education practice. The combination of theory, specific examples and in-depth discussion will allow participants to support and change practice in their own contexts.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to: Explain the imperative for adaptive expertise in the health professions; Describe how cognitive and curricular mechanisms support development of adaptive expertise; and Apply this curricular and cognitive lens to their own educational program
