Description
In this masterclass-style workshop we begin by watching a 5-minute volunteer presentation. We then conduct an in-depth analysis and real-time redesign of the slides presented. Through this, we will explore PowerPoint’s tools and explore techniques designed to make each slide more coherent, engaging and memorable. Primarily we will focus on spacing and sizing text, arranging and cropping images, choosing and using color, and overall focusing on creating visuals that purposely contribute to the presentation’s message(s). All participants are invited to comment and question on the choices and approaches explored.
*If you are would like to revitalize your presentation during our live session, please send an email to cfd@unityhealth.to with the PowerPoint file you would like to present. The volunteer will be chosen and contacted prior to the session date.*

Speakers/Facilitators
Douglas Buller
Douglas Buller works at the Wilson Centre (Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and the University Health Network). He makes slides. A lot of slides. And he has been making a lot of slides for a very long time. In fact when he started making slides, slides were actually physical, 35mm film-slides. Since then (and before anyone asked him to) he has been exploring ways to ensure that slides meaningfully contribute to a presentation's purpose and intention. To do this he draws on approaches from cognitive psychology, art theory, film theory, semiotics and graphic design.
