3 hoursThis workshop is focused on the alignment between curriculum, instructional practice, and subsequent assessment. We look at current theory on how assessment practices can shape and enhance learning and work on practical exercise to apply this knowledge to individual assessment practice. -

3 hoursThis workshop examines ideas around what healthy and successful academic collaboration looks like. We will address issues surrounding authorship ethics, team composition, and scholarly project management among others. -

3 hoursThis workshop is for education scholars – people who are engaging in any form of research or evaluation in education. It helps explain the differences and relationships between procedural and practical ethics and about reflexivity in education research, evaluation, and scholarship, -
Evaluative Thinking for Program Evaluation in HPE
3 hoursThis workshop explores how to engage in meaningful and practical program evaluation. Participants learn how to select, apply, and implement tailored approaches to program evaluation that can lead to positive curricular and system change. -
Fostering Adaptive Expertise in Education
3 hoursThis workshop will provide an opportunity for in-depth exploration of the science of adaptive expertise. We will describe the construct of adaptive expertise, present examples of evidence-based cognitive and curricular mechanisms that support development of adaptive expertise and help participants envision the translation of theoretical research into education practice. -
Giving and Receiving Feedback
3 hoursThis workshop provides participants with the opportunity to reflect on both providing feedback from the teacher’s perspective and receiving feedback from the learner’s perspective. We will compare and contrast different “conversational choices” available to educators as part of their learning conversations. -
How To Teach Medical Learners: A Humanities Toolkit
3 hoursThis workshop covers the different approaches to teaching critical reflection and close reading of texts and images. We explore the future directions for the integration of humanities competency into medical education. -
If, When and How to Use Surveys in Education Scholarship
3 hoursThe workshop explores the reasons for conducting surveys as well as how to optimize alignment between survey methods, scholarly questions, and research paradigms. Participants will be introduced to best practices for question development, survey administration, data analysis, and interpretation. -
Intersection of Communication and Emotion in Healthcare
3 hoursThis workshop focuses on actively engaging emotion and affect as a form of knowledge through storytelling. It describes how emotional memory transforms knowledge through close listening to another’s experience and how relational possibilities can occur through mutual narrative experience.
